 Romania Animal Rescue has funded the spay/neuter of more than 8400 dogs. We have provided free spay/neuter for seven shelters as well as in the cities and towns of: Sibiu, Bucharest, Cluj/Napoca, Braila, Giurgiu, Galati, Arad, Popesti, Jilava, Glina, Tecuci, and Buzau .
 We have adopted out over 300 dogs and puppies with help from the Romania Animal Rescue Foundation in Bucharest.
 We have supplied food for shelters in Romania, as well as treatments for hundreds of dogs, and supplied donated products from Merial USA and Merial Romania to shelters and individuals in need of help for their animals.
 We have trained 26 Romanian veterinarians on early age and mass spay/neuter techniques, as well as the use of anesthesia and analgesia for surgery.
 Our affiliate charity in Romania, RARF, has held educational programs in Romania, including the Lords of the Street event in October of 2008, educating the public as to the value of the street dog, and in 2009 the "Alo Oscar" campaign, which ran on 17 billboards in Bucharest, encouraging acceptance and adoption of the street dogs and mutts in Romania.
 We have provided help by covering medical costs for treatments of animals for hundreds of individuals, including Daniela, Georgana, Michal, Elena, Claudiu, Otilia, Andreea, Dana, Rolando, Vasile, Ioana, Corina, Cristina, Patricia.
 RAR has sent over 40 crates to Romania, along with thousands of dollars of donated veterinary supplies.

Bucharest/Tecuci Spayathons

Bucharest
From April 12 through April 18, we spayed/neutered 714 animals. Drs. Jeanne Olson from Alaska and Aurelian and Pepe Stefan from Romania worked long hours, averaging over 100 operations every day. GIA assisted with prepping the animals for surgery. One of the dogs brought to the Spayathon was Harry. He suffered from eye infections, no teeth, and was covered with lice. After treating him, Dr. Olson decided to adopt him.
Tecuci
We took only one day to rest and recuperate from the Bucharest Spayathon. There was still another long Spayathon ahead of us. From April 20 through April 28, we spayed/neutered 637 animals. Association Tomita helped with surgery prep, making sure they were as comfortable as possible. |

Billy's Wheels

With so many stray animals roaming the streets of Romania, many are hit by cars. Those dogs not killed are maimed, often requiring surgery to set their broken bones and treat their wounds. If their spine is broken, the only way for these dogs to walk again without trailing their hind legs, is to fit them into dog wheelchairs that support their hind legs.
Bill's wheelchair arrived. He ran all day long with his new wheelchair! First he wore out Cristina, then he got her mother tired, but for Billy no problem.

Popesti Spayathon

 On March 14 and 15, 2009, Romania Animal Rescue and Laura Pontini from Italy sponsored a Spayathon in Popesti, about 35 miles north of Bucharest. There was an unexpectedly great turnout for the event. A steady stream of people lined up between 8:30 AM to 11:00 PM to get their dogs and cats spayed or neutered. Some waited in line for a couple of hours, as Dr. Aurelian and his assistant prepared the animls for their procedures.
Dr. Aurelian said most of the females were either in heat or were pregnant. Children from Animals Lovers Club showed their support by taking dogs for a walk before their operations and covering the animals with blankets after operations.
With each event, the people in Romania are noticing a difference on the streets and in their lives. There are fewer animals roaming the towns where we hold these sterilization events. Animal activism is educating the people that today's medical procedures are helping their beloved animals live longer, healthier lives. The media is reflecting this change by reporting on these events.
The things that were possible because of the generosity of the donors, the stretcher, the kurunda dog bed, the spay/neuter, it is all because of wonderful and incredible people who have it in their hearts to help these animals that they have never met. |

Sending Cara to Canada

These photos are of Cara, a blind Doberman that we have been asked to help. It is believed that Cara was probably used as a breeder dog, and then dumped on the street after her producing days were over (even though she is blind). She needs a lot of TLC, and this is exactly what Rebecca offers her in Victoria! In May, Cara was transported to Canada to be with Rebecca. She is in Victoria, British Columbia now. |
